More than 85 House and Senate Democrats have formally called for President Trump’s removal from office — through either impeachment or the 25th Amendment — following Trump’s explosive social media posts during the Iran conflict. The push marks one of the most coordinated Democratic removal efforts since Trump’s return to the White House.

The flashpoint: Trump posted on Truth Social that “a whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again,” alarming lawmakers on both sides about executive war powers. Democrats say the posts crossed a line — and that Congress must act.

Reps. Shri Thanedar of Michigan and Jasmine Crockett of Texas both sent formal letters to Vice President J.D. Vance and the Cabinet urging them to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove Trump from power. Rep. John Larson of Connecticut separately introduced full articles of impeachment, citing Iran and a string of other alleged violations.

But here’s the reality: none of it is likely to succeed. The 25th Amendment requires Vance himself to lead the charge — and Vance has stood firmly by Trump, backing the administration’s approach on Iran. Without Republican support in the House, impeachment articles go nowhere.

Democrats say they’re sending a message to voters that they’re fighting back. Republicans call it political theater. Either way, it’s the most serious removal push Trump has faced in his second term — and it’s not over.
